Manage your online reputation with Google
It is becoming increasingly more important to be aware of your online reputation these days with so many employers choosing to Google potential employees before they even consider sending them an invite for the interview.
There are a number of ways in which you can improve your online reputation and we at The Career Engineer have a few low cost suggestions for you to consider:
1. WoW4CVs.co.uk a service offered by WoWMyCV(UK), let us put your CV online and work on the Search Engine Optimisation for you to get your online CV high in Google search so that when an employer searches your name one of the first things they find is your online CV and not the pictures from last Fridays rather drunken night out that your friends have plastered on Facebook. This low cost solution is just £50.00 for two years, visit the WoW4CVs.co.uk website for further information.
2. Google Profiles a service offered by Google that allows you to have a page containing all the relevant information about you, and only the information you want it to contain, Google Profiles is a free service to anyone.
There are many companies out there who for a fee and in some cases VERY LARGE fees who claim to be able to remove all the negative comments/information about you on the internet, now we don’t know how effective these companies really are (but we are trying a few out just to see) but we suggest you try our options first as most individuals don’t really need to worry about having these expensive services who can charge up to £100.00 just to send you a list of websites that mention your name and lets face it anyone can type their own name in to Google so why bother paying someone to do that for you.
We also suggest you read our article on How NOT to Social Network when job hunting which give some simple tips and advice on what you can do to reduce the chances of that potential employer finding the information you’d rather they didn’t see.
From our own extensive experience of working with search engines like Google, Yahoo etc we know just how long it takes to get new content listed in search engines and by the same token we also know just how long it takes for information to drop out of search engines, so don’t expect the process of removing unwanted or negative comments about yourself to be something that can happen in a few days or even weeks it really does take longer than that.
But by using our suggestions above to help you in the process of improving your online reputation.
